Cancemi's professional experience includes Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), subsurface investigations, soil vapor intrusion assessments, design and management of soil remediation projects, installation and maintenance of groundwater remediation systems, aquifer testing and analysis, geotechnical studies, environmental compliance, and litigation support.
Investigating and remediating blighted and underutilized properties across the metropolitan New York area and Long Island for redevelopment are some of the most interesting projects Cancemi said he is currently involved with a FPM Group.
"One of my most challenging projects included the redevelopment of a former aerospace manufacturing facility, which as the senior hydrogeologist, I was tasked with interviewing the facility personnel to evaluate historic operations and their potential impacts to subsurface media (soil, groundwater and soil vapor), developing and implementing subsurface investigations to identify and determine the nature and extent of identified impacts," Cancemi said.
"Upon completion of this investigation, these data were used to determine the most cost effective solutions to remediation the site and meet regulatory requirements," he noted. "The solution at this site included the proper closure of aboveground and underground storage tanks, the excavation and proper disposal of contaminated soils, and the development of environmental plans to manage residual contaminated soil."
Cancemi earned a master's degree in hydrogeology from SUNY Stony Brook and a bachelor's degree in geology for SUNY Stony Brook. He is a Certified Professional Geologist from the American Institute of Professional Geologists and is a NYC Office of Environmental Remediation Gold Certified Professional.
